Samsung Predict To Prevent application

The predictive text system that actively prevents tragedy from depression

“When friends struggle with depression, this app can help.””  - ADWEEK

Background :

350 million people worldwide suffer from depression and communicating with people with depression, despite their best intentions, can sometimes do more harm than good and can lead to self-harm or suicide.

Problem :

Texting has become the main channel people use to communicate, and for people with depression, communication via text is riskier than face-to-face because readers are unable to recognize the tone of voice, facial expressions or body languages. Knowing that it only takes one word to unravel a life, how can we protect people with depression from harmful words before they reach them?

Solution :

Introducing Samsung Predict To Prevent - a keyboard application the recommends the right mix of words to use with someone who is hurting from depression. By utilizing the predictive text function, the keyboard detects words that can potentially hurt people with depression, and recommend a better response to prevent the reader from misinterpreting the message, which can have a damaging effect such as self-harm or suicide. The app contains 100,000+ combination of words that should and shouldn’t be used with people with depression, all of which are certified by psychiatrists.
